Paying for Coverage Expansion

Through the Affordable Care Act, the federal government will pay between 90 and 100 percent of the cost of coverage expansion. The funding for coverage expansion comes from federal tax dollars saved, primarily from Medicare reimbursement cuts to hospitals.

Expansion will cost the state an estimated $503 million by 2020. At the same time, if CMS approves Indiana’s approach to coverage expansion, it will direct $10.5 billion to the state to cover the majority of the cost.

That’s a great return on investment. Learn more about the economic impact of coverage expansion for Indiana citizens, businesses and government »
